Conclusion
This week will be the concluding part of this series on Relevance (a list of previous posts are available on the site). In this series, I have shared some tips that could help you find significance in Crisis.
Crisis brings change, and the changes affect our lives in different ways; some feel the impact more than others. Relevance usually changes when we experience changes in our lives. They occur, especially when we do not make the required changes that are necessary to keep us relevant. Our ability to make the right changes can help keep us to remain valuable.
It is important to remember that change occurs in life. It could be initiated by us; or by other people. We could be affected positively or negatively; change will usually not leave anyone the same.
So many businesses have closed down as a result of the pandemic, which means many employees will not have a place to work. The United Nations work agency suggests that hundreds of millions of people could lose their jobs due to the effect of the coronavirus.
Many hard decisions will have to be made, which translates to a significant change for many. For some, it may be sudden, catching them unawares, while some others may be more prepared for whatever comes. Many people have managed their affairs so well in the past and have been doing wonderfully. However, they have suddenly become a victim of change which means they are now struggling to thrive.
There are so many things that are out of our control, but in such situations, there could be something we can do to help us recover or prevent a reoccurrence.
If you have lost value and it seems you are no longer needed, it may be because something has changed and you have not, or you have changed while other factors did not change.
If you are having a hard time, and struggling to thrive, stop, check, and assess the situation, something must have changed that requires your attention.
An English mathematician, physicist, astronomer, theologian, and author, Isaac Newton, discovered the laws of motion which I found very apposite. The first law of motion states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force.
The law implies that nothing changes until a force changes it. In order words, everything will remain the same if nothing changes. We see things change around us, which means something is initiating the change, and the changes do affect us.
We are not only affected by the changes we initiate but also, by the changes that are brought about by other forces around us. If you notice a variation, something must have happened for you to see that change and something else will be required to change the situation.
A boss may decide to terminate several appointments of employees because of change. One may be affected negatively and another no so much, but a positive adjustment in the right direction can help those affected to gain value again.
There have been various innovations and creative ideas around the world, which are efforts to change the usual or former ways of working to help improve the importance of products and services which has been affected by the change.
Some may find out that their significance has diminished because of the change and are struggling to survive; they may be able to find importance or applicability with their untapped skills and resources.
The world has witnessed a significant change as a result of the pandemic. It has changed the importance of so many people, businesses, skills, industries, and many more. An adjustment may be required to become relevant again.
Many will have to face the reality of the changes that have happened and begin to seek ways to change so that they can be relevant again. Crisis brings changes and creates the opportunity to improve.
There is something to do to get the right and desired result. Do not wait for things to change; the change may not be in your favour. Make the change that can help you fulfil your goal.
I hope you have found these tips valuable and you can find the missing link that could help you in your journey out of irrelevance.
Another topic you may find helpful will be available next week, don’t miss it. It is Copy Right -Understanding the art of learning from others.
